On December 10, 2019, APRA (Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority) released a new data source rating MySuper products. This Heatmap was made available as an Excel file for user to explore.

We have turned this dataset into a more explorable set of visualisation which can be navigated to from the main menu. The scatter charts show more information as the user hovers over each MySuper product.

Challenges

• APRA announced in late 2019 that they were publishing heatmaps to compare performance across superannuation funds with a MySuper default option

• The data provided was in static PDFs as well as Excel

• Whilst the Excel file provided a colour-coded heatmap, this was still only in table format and performance gaps were only shown via differentiation of colours

 

Outcomes

• Using Power BI, we took the same datasets provided by APRA and created interactive MySuper heatmap visualisations which showed performance differences as scatterplots which helped users better visualize differences in the data

• The addition of sliders as well as filters means users can more easily compare performance across funds with specific criteria
